Who We Are
GSSEPrep was built by a team of surgical registrars and consultants who have sat and passed the General Surgical Sciences Examination (GSSE) themselves. Having navigated the demands of RACS surgical training first-hand, they recognised a clear gap: the resources available to candidates were fragmented, poorly aligned with the actual syllabus, and rarely reflected the depth and style of questions encountered in the real exam.
GSSEPrep was created to fix that.
Why We Built GSSEPrep
Preparing for the GSSE is one of the most challenging academic hurdles in a surgical career. The syllabus is broad, the exam is rigorous, and the stakes are high. Yet many candidates approach their preparation without a structured framework — relying on textbooks, scattered notes, and question banks that don’t accurately reflect what the GSSE actually tests.
Our team set out to build the resource they wished had existed when they were preparing. Every component of GSSEPrep — from the syllabus structure to the question design, explanations, and references — has been developed with the specific demands of the GSSE in mind, drawing on direct exam experience and deep familiarity with the RACS training pathway.
Our Expertise
The content behind GSSEPrep has been developed by doctors who have completed surgical training in Australia and New Zealand. Our contributors include surgical registrars currently working through the RACS training program, and consultants who have successfully progressed through every stage of that pathway — including the GSSE.
This clinical and academic depth means GSSEPrep doesn’t just cover what’s on the syllabus — it reflects how that material is actually examined, the level of depth required, and the reasoning behind correct answers. Every question, explanation, and reference has been quality-reviewed against the RACS GSSE syllabus and the standards expected of candidates.
Our Approach
GSSEPrep is built around a syllabus-first philosophy. Rather than offering a generic question bank, we have systematically analysed the GSSE syllabus and built a structured learning framework that maps directly to it. This allows candidates to study with confidence that their preparation is comprehensive, targeted, and aligned with what will actually be assessed.
The platform is divided into two complementary sections: the GSSE Bank, which contains questions drawn directly from the official RACS question pool, and the GSSEPrep Bank, a curated library of over 10,000 original questions designed by our team to mirror the style, integration, and difficulty of the GSSE. Both sections sit within the same syllabus framework, allowing candidates to track their progress systematically across every topic and subtopic.
We also recognise that candidates come to the GSSE at different stages of preparation. GSSEPrep supports this with foundational questions for those building their knowledge base, and advanced exam-level questions for those in the final stages of revision. Tutor Mode provides immediate feedback and explanations; Exam Mode replicates true exam conditions.
Our Commitment to Quality
Every question on GSSEPrep has been written with clinical accuracy, pedagogical rigour, and exam relevance as core priorities. Explanations are concise and exam-focused. References are drawn from authoritative sources aligned with GSSE-level expectations. The platform is continuously updated as the GSSE syllabus evolves and new exam content emerges.
We are committed to providing the most accurate, comprehensive, and clinically relevant GSSE preparation resource available to surgical trainees across Australia and New Zealand.
Our Mission
Our mission is straightforward: to give every GSSE candidate the best possible chance of passing — first time. We believe that structured, syllabus-driven preparation, supported by high-quality questions and detailed feedback, is the most effective path to exam success. GSSEPrep exists to make that kind of preparation accessible, intuitive, and effective for every surgical trainee.
GSSEPrep is an independent educational platform. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS).
